  1. Use timers and motion sensors to turn lights off and on

  2. Lower hot water tank heater to 120 F

  3. Air-dry dishes, sheets and lightweight clothing, whenever possible

  4. Seal gaps around pipes, chimneys, lights, windows and brickwork with spray foam insulation

  5. Use incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient LEDs or CFLs

  6. Wash a full load of laundry and when using dishwasher

  7. Use weatherstripping and caulking around doors and windows to prevent drafts

  8. Replace HVAC filters regularly and have a licensed professional inspect your heating and cooling systems twice a year.

  9. Replace thermostat with programmable thermostat to conserve resources and money.


In addition, contact your utility company and ask if they offer a free home energy audit. 

According to AmericaSaves.org, eneergy lost from a basement, unfinished room, attic. or garage can be an expensive waste of money. 

Sealing leaky duct work can provide additional savings.
